Strine (Australian)

 -there are many, many more Strine words, and I will add to this list as often as possible.

arvo - afternoon 

barbie - a Barbeque (or BBQ)

block - temper - "doing his block" is losing his temper - can also be "head" as in "knock his block off" which means to punch him in the head

bloke - man, guy - "he's a good bloke" is a great compliment

bloody - the great Aussie adjective!

bludge - to slack off, not work hard - so a poor worker is a bludger

blue - to fight eg I had a blue with the missus (fight with my wife)

chuck - either to throw an object, or to throw up or vomit

cobber - friend

cossie - swimming costume, trunks, bathing suit

crook - unwell, ill (can be alcohol induced)

cuppa - cup of tea or cup of coffee

dead 'orse - tomato ketchup that Aussies call tomato sauce, or just sauce -  dead 'orse (dead horse)rhymes with sauce

digger - an Australian soldier, also used like mate

dill - see drongo

dinkum - real/genuine "fair dinkum" is true or for real

a do - a social event, eg a barbie or a party

dob in - report someone to the authorities

drongo - a stupid person

dunny - the toilet (apologies to my American friends)

earbasher - someone who likes to talk a lot

fella - man, guy, fellow

full as a goog - drunk, intoxicated (a goog can be an egg!)

galah - stupid person

g'day - hello (good day) - pronounced gidday

go - an attempt or try eg have a go ya mug (try it you moron)

hooroo - goodbye

jack - tired of something eg. I'm jack of this

jake - OK, eg she'll be jake means "that's OK"

kip - a sleep/nap

knock off - finish work for the day

loo - see dunny

mate - either friend, or used when speaking to a stranger in a friendly way (eg g'day mate)

the missus - your wife. eg ows the missus? - how is your wife?

mug - an easy mark, also your face eg look at his ugly mug, or a disparaging remark about someone eg that bloke is a mug (or moron)

no wuckers - also no worries, means not a problem - comes from a spoonerism that requires an X rated page to explain, so I will keep you guessing.

ow ya goin' - how are you? (How are you going?)

pom or pommy - someone from England

sauce - tomato ketchup

saucey - sexy, eg look at that saucey sheila

sheila - a woman, chick

shirty - upset, angry eg he's a bit shirty

shoot through - leave "I have to shoot through before dad gets home"

strewth - gosh, gee

togs - swimming costume. Also cossie

tucker - food

yank - someone from the USA
